Celebrating Impact: Alphia’s Journey of Awards and Recognition

Alphia’s unwavering commitment to creating change has earned her both national and international recognition. In 2023–2024, she was named USAID Liberia’s Development Youth of the Year—a powerful acknowledgment of her advocacy for democratic governance, youth empowerment, and inclusive leadership.
Her impact only deepened in 2024 when she was honored with the Young Woman of Excellence Award by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – Delta Iota Zeta Chapter. That same year, she was also celebrated as Youth Personality of the Year 2024, and earlier recognized as Outstanding Young Political Leader of the Year (2023/2024) by the Educate A Girl Child Foundation.
Her dedication to service has also been acknowledged by leading organizations. She received a Certificate of Recognition from Arise Impact Initiative in 2023 and a Certificate of Honor from Plan International in 2021.
Alphia’s inspiring story has been featured by UN Women Liberia and other prominent platforms, where she continues to champion the voices of young people—especially girls—and promote leadership rooted in integrity, action, and empathy.

July 20, 2024, Youth Town Hall with the President of Liberia

Representing youth in politics and governance, she passionately addressed key issues including youth capacity building, intergenerational leadership, and the dangers of tokenism in youth representation.
During her remarks, Alphia recommended the establishment of Liberia’s first National Youth Advisory Council—a groundbreaking step toward youth political inclusion. Following this historic recommendation, she was appointed as Secretary of the National Youth Advisory Council to the President of Liberia.

At the signing ceremony for the Farmington Declaration of Peace ahead of the 2023 elections, Alphia called on all stakeholders in the electoral process—especially the government, candidates, and political parties—to put Liberia’s interest first and refrain from statements that could incite violence before, during, or after the elections.

West African Civil Society Week 2023

At the West African Civil Society Week, Alphia discussed “The Shrinking Civic Space in West Africa,” focusing on the trajectory of civic space, factors shaping the current situation, and the future for young people. She explored strategies to address current challenges and innovate for a better future.
She also spoke at the West African Policy Dialogue Series on Youth Participation in the Democratic Process in West Africa on November 27, 2024, highlighting the importance of youth engagement in democratic governance.
